Yuri Zhirkov Transfers to Anzhi
Hello all Russia fans, as most of you all ready know Russian left-back Yuri Zhirkov has transferred from Chelsea FC to Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala. This move comes after some much rumored whispers that he was in Russia having talks with several clubs interested in his signature. Zhirkov transferred to Chelsea from CSKA Moskva in 2009. But his two year stint was plagued by injury troubles and difficulty in solidifying a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s first eleven. After Ancelotti’s departure, it became apparent that new manager AndrĂ© Villas-Boas was interested in revamping the squad but did not have room for Zhirkov.
In my opinion this move will be beneficial for Zhirkov as he well be able to complement Roberto Carlos on Anzhi’s left flank. This will also be an opportunity for Zhirkov to play more regularly and regain peak form and fitness. Zhirkov is clearly the type of player who needs and deserves to play every weekend for 90 minutes. He had bursts of his best at Chelsea but was unable to dislodge Florent Malouda, Paulo Ferreira, or Ashley Cole on the left wing or left back positions.
Thats all I have to say for now, I look forward to reading your comments.
