Russia Lithuania Friendly RUS 4-1 LTU

June 6th, 2008 | By: Nick | 4 Comments »

Hi all, I just wanted to share my thoughts on Russia’s 4-1 victory over Lithuania.

First of all I thought this was a pretty decent performace for Russia especially for Pavlyuchenko and Sychev. Both strikers are critical to be in form as Pogrebnyak is doubt for Russia. I was happy to see the new players play such as Renat Yanbaev and Roman Adamov. Russia did however go behind in the first half and turned it around in the second half with goals from Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Zyrianov, and Bystrov. I do have to point out that Russia’s defense looked a bit leaky as Lithuania had several dangerous oppurtunities. Mistakes from Ignashevich and Yanbaev could have proven costly.

Overall however I think Russia did well and will certainly be a force against Spain on Tuesday.

Here are clips of the game.

Are there any updates with Pogrebnyak?

Russia is capable of being the upset of the tournament especially if he is ready. Can’t wait to see your opening match against Spain.

It looks like progrebnyak has withdrawn from the sqaud after failing to recover from his knee injury. Oleg Ivanov is to replace him.

I’m not that optimistic before the game against Spain. I think we should be very lucky to get one point…

Don;t worry we have Hiddink, they have Arrogantes, and once they fall behind Spain loses the whole tournament.
