a return of Valery Gazzaev?
After leading CSKA Moscow to an extraordinary finish, as he noted mid-season, Valery Gazzaev retired from the Moscow powerhouse. In a very revealing interview for Sports Express he revealed an interest to return to the national team.
“My personal dream is to have good rest now. As for almost twenty years I had no such an opportunity. And then I wish to work – and achieve victories. I think the time will come when I will work with the national team.”
In speaking of CSKA Moscow, the great leader said:
“CSKA of the second round in 2008 is the best team in twenty years of my coaching career. That concerns everything: quality of the game, results, level of the players, their psychology, tactics, and team spirit. This team shows fantastic football of the European class.”
“I am convinced that CSKA is ready for the Champions League now. We have eight positions with the players of the highest level and the necessary experience. In the autumn the players were not afraid of anybody, they entered the field with the sense of self-confidence.”
Of his goals as a coach he added:
“My task as a coach lies in picking up young players and developing their best qualities. To those I have mentioned such players have joined as (Alan) Dzagoev and (Pavel) Mamaev. They have their whole sports career ahead.”
With his extraordinary record of success, it is hard to imagine he won’t have an opportunity within the national program.
